Who we are

Three areas of expertise. One value chain.

Bringing out the value of a natural resource means connecting its scientific potential to what the market requires: making the case for it, securing its use, building a reliable chain and meeting buyers' expectations.

Omunis brings together these three capabilities. Pierre-Alain orchestrates. Jean-François secures. Denis opens the route to market.

Portrait of Pierre-Alain Rubbo

Pierre-Alain Rubbo

President & co-founder · Strategy, science & partnerships

A scientist, entrepreneur and specialist in high-level partnerships, Pierre-Alain Rubbo connects the worlds that have to work together to turn a resource into an industrial project.

A PhD in biology and health sciences, author of 35 scientific publications and co-inventor on four patents, he co-founded Omunis in 2014 to bring innovations out of public research in biotechnology and health and into use.

Over nearly seven years in Africa, he headed a laboratory and then advised French ambassadors in six countries, coordinating ministries, funders, international organizations, researchers and companies around complex projects with high technical, health, economic and political stakes.

This threefold expertise, scientific, entrepreneurial and institutional, lets him bring together players with very different cultures and priorities, and turn complex issues into decisions, partnerships and concrete results.

What he brings

Orchestration of the value chain: science, strategy, partnerships and coordination of the players involved.

Portrait of Jean-François Bloch

Jean-François Bloch

Co-founder · Intellectual property, biodiversity & benefit-sharing

Developing biodiversity means creating value, but also knowing who may use it, how to protect it and how to share it fairly.

A qualified pharmacist and a graduate of CEIPI, he has several decades of experience in patents, licensing, technology transfer and negotiation in biotechnology. Co-founder and deputy managing director of Proteus, he negotiated agreements with CNRS, CEA, Ifremer, IRD and INSERM.

His expertise goes further: he has worked for many years on bioprospecting, the use of biological resources and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits, the subject of several publications and scientific talks.

This dual culture, intellectual property and industry, lets him build frameworks in which resource holders, producers, researchers and manufacturers can work together with clearly established rights and a balanced share of value.

What he brings

Securing and sharing value: intellectual property, ABS / Nagoya, contracts, licenses and fair collaboration models.

Denis Wahler, PhD

Market access & ingredient development · The industry view

A scientist turned executive and market developer, Denis Wahler knows the full trajectory of an active ingredient: from laboratory validation through to industrialization and sale to major international players.

A PhD in chemistry and biochemistry, he has more than twenty years of experience in industrial biotechnology, natural ingredients, cosmetics, fragrances and specialty chemicals. At Proteus, he led R&D for ten years and then became scientific director, developing green chemistry processes.

After SEPPIC and Libragen, he joined Givaudan, moving from business development to global technology partnerships and then to commercial development. His path covers the whole continuum, from scientific proof to industrialization and then to selling actives and ingredients.

Now based in Asia, he runs his own company in the beauty and wellness sector. He brings Omunis a first-hand reading of what turns a promising resource into an active ingredient the industry actually wants.

What he brings

Market validation: industry needs, product development and access to international markets.
